Grade 3 · Math

Locate fractions on a number line

The idea

Mark 0 and 1, and divide that unit length into equal intervals.

Step by step
  1. Mark 0 and 1, and divide that unit length into equal intervals.
  2. The denominator names how many equal intervals make one whole.
  3. Count intervals from zero; the numerator names how many intervals you travel.

Example

A number line from 0 to 1 is divided into 3 equal intervals. A point is 1 interval(s) to the right of 0. Which fraction labels it?

Answer
