The idea
Identify the shorter hour hand and longer minute hand.
Step by step
- Identify the shorter hour hand and longer minute hand.
- A minute hand at 12 means :00; at 6 it means :30.
- At half past, name the hour that has already begun, even though its hand is between two numbers.
Example
On an analog clock, the minute hand points to 12; the hour hand is at 2. What time is shown?
Answer
2:00
The minute hand at 12 means 0 minutes past the hour. The time is 2:00.
