Check an energy design against a target
The idea
Define which output is useful for the stated design; other transfers still belong in the energy accounting.
Step by step
- Define which output is useful for the stated design; other transfers still belong in the energy accounting.
- Efficiency for this model is useful output ÷ input × 100%, measured for the same test.
- Compare the percentage with the requirement; one trial is evidence under its tested conditions.
Example
A model device receives 100 J and transfers 70 J as its intended useful output. The design target is at least 60% useful-output efficiency. Does this trial meet the target?
Answer
Yes, it meets the target.
Useful-output efficiency = × 100 = 70%. Compare this with 60%; yes, it meets the target.
