Use the candy array to connect multiplication with equal rows. Count a row, count the rows and combine them. For a beginning learner, it is fine to count each candy first and then notice the shortcut.
How to play
- Count the candies in one row.
- Count the equal rows.
- Choose the total and say rows × columns.
Make one useful connection
After a turn, ask “How did you work that out?” Try an array, a known fact or real objects if an answer is uncertain. Moving, holding and remembering are extra skills; choose another interaction if those get in the way of the numbers.
