Give an introductory modifier a clear doer

The idea

The subject after an introductory action phrase should be the person or thing performing that action.

Step by step
  1. Identify the action in the introductory phrase.
  2. Ask who actually performs it in the intended meaning.
  3. Make that doer the subject immediately after the introductory phrase.

Example

Intended meaning: Jo was carrying the boxes and dropped a key. Which revision gives carrying a clear doer?

Answer
