Convert metric measurements with decimals
The idea
Use the relationship for the units: 100 cm = 1 m, 1,000 g = 1 kg, and 1,000 mL = 1 L.
Step by step
- Use the relationship for the units: 100 cm = 1 m, 1,000 g = 1 kg, and 1,000 mL = 1 L.
- Multiply when converting to a smaller unit and divide when converting to a larger unit.
- Check the direction: the same amount needs more smaller units and fewer larger units.
Example
Convert 0.75 L to mL.
Answer
750 mL
The conversion factor from L to mL is 1000. Multiply 0.75 by this factor to get 750 mL. The physical amount stays the same.
