LET’S TRY ONE
Study A finds fewer wrong turns with Map X on a small indoor route. Study B finds no difference between X and Y on an outdoor route. Both reports describe only their own tested routes.
Which synthesis is faithful?
The results differ across the tested settings; the studies do not establish one universal winner.
Different settings can produce different findings without establishing a universal ranking.
Learning steps & teaching tips
Combine findings from several short study descriptions while preserving differences in outcomes, samples and evidential strength.
- List each study’s sample, outcome and relevant result.
- Identify agreements and differences that can coexist.
- Write a bounded synthesis that preserves uncertainty and dependence between sources.
Try it together
Create two short imaginary study summaries with different settings. Write one fair synthesis, then explain why a more sweeping headline would misrepresent them.
State what each study actually measured; do not turn agreement, association or separate comparisons into a stronger conclusion than the sources support.
