ONE WAY TO THINK ABOUT IT

Ten groups and one more.

11 × 7 = 10 × 7 + 7 = 70 + 7 = 77. The same strategy works beyond single-digit multipliers.

Try this together

Try 11 × 12 = 120 + 12 = 132; repeated digits are not the whole rule.
