ONE WAY TO THINK ABOUT IT

Ten groups and two more.

12 × 8 = 10 × 8 + 2 × 8 = 80 + 16 = 96. A split array keeps both parts visible.

Try this together

Try another split, such as 6 groups doubled, and compare.

Say the complete fact, draw or build its groups, then try it again without the picture. It is fine to return to a known fact when an answer feels uncertain.

NOW TRY A FEW

Practise the 12s in a small set.
