ONE WAY TO THINK ABOUT IT

Use five groups and one more.

6 × 8 = 5 × 8 + 8 = 40 + 8 = 48. Separate a six-row array into five rows and one row.

Try this together

Start with a 5s fact and explain the extra group.

Say the complete fact, draw or build its groups, then try it again without the picture. It is fine to return to a known fact when an answer feels uncertain.

NOW TRY A FEW

Practise the 6s in a small set.
